One of the more "out" recordings on Strata East, and the 4th record in the label's great Dolphy Series. Saxophonist Charles Brackeen plays his own compositions with backing by an all-Ornette group of Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell, and Charlie Haden. The rhythm section plays with a fairly strong pulse, but Brackeen's solos are free and soulful, and wander searchingly over Blackwell's tight drumming and Haden's snapping bass. The production is excellent, with a very sharp edge, and a nice soulful sound – and titles include "Hour Glass", "CB Blues", and "Charles Concept"
