During the summer of 1992, Barenaked Ladies released their debut, Gordon. The album was widely praised for refreshing, upbeat and fun songs like the hit single, "If I Had $1000000." The alt-rock classic turns 25 in 2017 and Rhino is celebrating the release by introducing the album on vinyl (180g 2LP) for the first time. In 1991, thanks to the massive success of the band's independently released cassette The Yellow Tape, Barenaked Ladies won the "Discovery To Disc" contest hosted by a Toronto radio station. The Canadian quintet used the prize money to record Gordon with producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda. Following its release in July 1992, the album topped the Canadian charts for eight weeks, while earning gold status in the U.S. The original album mixed an array of musical styles (pop, rock, hip-hop and more) and featured several fan favorites, including "Be My Yoko Ono," "Brian Wilson," "Blame It On Me" and "If I Had $1000000," which remains one of the group's best-known songs.
