Heartbreaker, the timeless debut solo album by Ryan Adams, hailed as a modern classic on its release in September 2000, is being remastered, expanded, and improved in 2016 courtesy of Paxam Records. Remastered from the original tapes, the album will come in a deluxe box set that features the 15 song album plus 20 additional demos and unreleased outtakes from this landmark record by one of rock music's most prolific and charismatic stars. The package will also include a DVD featuring never before released footage of a complete solo acoustic show at the Mercury Lounge in New York City in October 2000 (including Adams' first ever live performance of his now-legendary cover of Oasis's "Wonderwall"), and a glossy booklet of rare and unseen photos with liner notes written by producer, friend and collaborator Ethan Johns. Heartbreaker was recorded over fourteen days at Woodland Studios in Nashville, TN. The band featured Ryan Adams on guitars, vocals, piano and harmonica, Ethan Johns on bass and drums, bluegrass stalwarts Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch on guitars and backing vocals, and Pat Sansone on keyboards. The album also included guest vocals by Emmylou Harris, Kim Richey and Alison Pierce. Heartbreaker is a near perfect record, the kind that never gets dated, with songs that slowly work themselves into our subconscious musical heritage. It's also Bloodshot Records' best seller ever. With Heartbreaker it was immediately apparent that Ryan Adams had taken a momentous leap forward with his songwriting and songcraft, abilities that had been merely hinted at in his days with Whiskeytown. For such a fully formed, confident set of songs to come out of nowhere, with their easy amalgam of country and rock stylings, seemed impossible. Heartbreaker almost single handedly re-defined what was possible for roots music and moved firmly into the mainstream without a whiff of compromised quality. This raggedy folk-punk confessional, with its stripped down band and sparse arrangements combine to create a record full of soul-baring songs.
